Trauma Sensitive Movement
with Dion Wiedenhoefer

Trauma Sensitive Movement was born out of Dion’s own healing journey and exploration with trauma recovery treatments, combined with her experiences in training and teaching yoga, dance, Pilates and functional movement conditioning.  Dion is a certified Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) Facilitator who believes that through the practice of moving, noticing sensations and choosing what we do with our own bodies, while having a shared authentic experience in community is profoundly helpful to one’s recovery, health and wellness.  Her offerings prioritize awareness of power dynamics, non-coercion and compassion.

“No intervention that takes power away from the survivor can possibly foster {their} recovery, no matter how much it appears to be in {their} immediate best interest.” ~Judith Lewis Herman, MD

“Yoga must not be practiced to control the body; it is the opposite, it must bring freedom to the body, all the freedom it needs.”

What folks are saying...

“I was devastated when diagnosed with an auto-immune disease several years ago. I was flooded with conflicting thoughts: that I had betrayed my body and brought the disease upon myself, and that my body had betrayed me. Through Dion's trauma-sensitive yoga, I've learned to listen closely to my body, and to care about what feels comfortable and affirming as I move through poses. Practicing compassion for my body has helped me to stop fighting my disease and to stop judging myself. Dion's classes are a joy for me, a celebration of who I am, of what my body can do.” -C.F.
